too rough?

Is this too rough a drawing/style to be considered a finished piece for a picture book? It's been so hard to let myself be this loose and simple. Does it work?

I think most immediately of James Marshall and Quentin Blake (and more recently, Mo Willems) as examples of rough but simple PB illustration.

TOTALLY works! :)

Super appealing, great clarity, fun, and the concept carries it off superbly.

I think this rocks, amigo.

Andy - I really like this and agree with Dagan: it TOTALLY works.

Though I love illustrations that are full of amazing detail and "high art" techniques, there's something especially appealing and genius about the "rough" style you've got going on here. It's very approachable and charming. You've managed to convey a lot of "story" and expression with very few lines - that is a great skill and not one to be taken lightly.

Nicely done!
:)

PS - How's that baby sleeping?

The concept of the illo made me smile. I also like the style, its nice simple and clean, I can see a whole book done this way. Go for it!
